T-LANE NATION CASE STUDY: BC HYDRO – MICA DAM GIRDER MOVE

On October 6, 2016  Category:  T-Lane Nation Case Studies

T-Lane Nation recently partnered with BC Hydro on a Mica Dam Girder move:

Client: BC Hydro

Objective:  Transport 4 Girders from Annacis Island to Mica Dam

Challenges: All pieces shrink wrapped for protection from weather.

Girder Dimensions: 79’3″ long x 11’wide x 11’3″ high and 100,000lbs

Lifting Beam Dimensions: 19′ long x 3′ wide x 5’9″high

Special Project Considerations:

The T-Lane Nation team worked with BC Hydro’s Environment Department to plan this move with special consideration to the migration of the western toad (a threatened species on the SARA list) as well as the woodland caribou (listed on the endangered species list), as both inhabit the Mica Dam area.  T-Lane Nation is happy to report that no caribou or toads were harmed during this project.

T-Lane Nation Solution:

The T-Lane Nation team transported these pieces successfully from Ideal Welders in Delta to Mica Dam which is approximately 150kms north of Revelstoke. This move took three days each to load, ship and and unload and was executed successfully in three night moves.

Thank you BC Hydro for another successful project, we look forward to the next one!
